Doctor Vs Google Doctor

Between me and Google, only one of us has a dental degree.
And yet I'll be honest. Some days it really feels like a close competition.
They just walks in, sits on the chair, and before I even pick up my mirror they go, "Doctor, I think I know what this is." Fully calm. Fully confident. Google-certified.
I always smile and say, "Let's have a look together."
Nine times out of ten, it's nowhere near what they read online. And that's actually okay because at least they came in.
What worries me more are the ones who Google, scare themselves, and then don't come at all. They sit with the pain for weeks convincing themselves it's something huge, when most of the time it's something we can sort out in one visit.
Most dental symptoms don't always tell the full story. The same dull ache can mean five completely different things depending on what's actually going on underneath. A search result can't see your X-ray. It can't feel where the pressure is. It can't tell you "this one we watch" from "this one we fix today."
That's what I'm here for.
So yes, Google your symptoms if it helps you feel prepared. But please don't let it talk you out of the appointment.
